Spend That Special Day In Scotland's Smallest Most Intimate Chapels

Wedding arrangements getting to you? Family squabbles turning your special plans into a nightmare? Romantic Scotland may have the answer - be married in one of the many tiny private wedding chapels in Scotland. With only room for the closest of family and friends, your day will be an intimate occasion.

Cromlix House Hotel, Stirlingshire
Five-star luxury surrounds you in the hotel's private chapel which dates back to 1874. It's full of historical treasures and turn of the century silks, and with seating for a maximum wedding party of only 55, it's perfect for an intimate, yet luxurious, wedding. After your memorable day, Cromlix's turret suite exudes romance with its large brass bed, beautiful antiques and panoramic views of the surrounding gardens - an amorous retreat for a first night of wedded bliss!

Delgatie Castle by Turriff in Aberdeenshire
With space to seat only 20 in the chapel, weddings at Delgatie Castle promise to be personal occasions! Claiming to be Scotland's oldest inhabited castle, the tiny chapel is the most recent addition to the building, having been added in 1743. Mary, Queen of Scots stayed here for 3 days in 1562. No need to bring a wedding cake - the custodian Joan Johnstone provides arguably the best home-baking in Scotland for the castle's tearoom. Spend your wedding night in the four-poster bed in the Symbister Suite.

Traquair House, Scottish Borders
Originally owned by the kings of Scotland and claiming to be the oldest inhabited castle in Scotland, Traquair House was a stopping point for Bonnie Prince Charlie in 1745. Traquair has a private Catholic chapel in one of the wings. And if you need a special toast for the happy couple, then Traquair houses one of the country's oldest breweries! Spend your first night together in one of 3 luxury suites.

Dalhousie Castle, Bonnyrigg, Edinburgh
The charming private chapel and vestry at Dalhousie provide a unique location for the most memorable of wedding ceremonies. The terrace doors of the chapel lead onto a patio which overlooks lush green parkland and the meandering South Esk River. Stay in the De Ramseia suite, with its carved oak double bed, soft furnishings, antique furniture and soft lighting - a haven for newlyweds to spend some time together. For an added touch of romance, the double jacuzzi bath in the oak paneled bathroom is perfect for relaxing with a glass of champagne.

Lennoxlove, East Lothian
If you really can't whittle down the guest list, Lennoxlove's private chapel can seat 45 guests. The chapel is the undercroft of the 14th Century and is atmospheric and romantic. Home to the Duke of Hamilton, the house, which is less than 20 minutes from Edinburgh's city centre, is exquisitely decorated. And if you want to arrive in style, then helicopters can be landed on the lawns of the house. Brown's Hotel in Haddington is a cosy four-star hotel overlooking the rolling Lammermill hills. A quaint Georgian country house, it is full of charm and perfect for newly-married couples to spend some time together relaxing after their big day. The bedrooms have low, intimate lighting and are traditionally decorated in light, fresh colours with splashes of tartan throughout.

Drum Castle, Aberdeenshire
With room for just 35, the tiny chapel in the grounds of Drum Castle is for intimate weddings only! The castle provides a prefect backdrop for the wedding photographs having 3 distinctive architectural periods - a castle for all seasons! To carry on the magic of your special day, Raemoir House Hotel is a luxury Georgian mansion, set amongst 3,500 acres of parkland and forest in Royal Deeside. The hotel's honeymoon suite has an imposing four-poster bed, bespoke tudor style furniture and a large Edwardian bath.

St Margaret's Chapel, Edinburgh Castle
Set high within the walls of Edinburgh Castle, St Margaret's Chapel holds up to 25 guests. The beautifully preserved 12th Century chapel is the oldest building in the castle and indeed in Edinburgh. The cobbled area outside the chapel affords panoramic views of the city of Edinburgh, a breathtaking background to your wedding photography. Located at the very top of the Royal Mile, by the gates of Edinburgh Castle, The Witchery is a spectacular 16th Century building with unique character. Decorated with opulent furnishings, antiques, works of art and wooden carvings - it has a gothic style, with traces of modern day design. The romance and grandeur of The Witchery will add the perfect finishing touch to a memorable wedding day.
