“Long before even the ancient civilization existed, in a time known by archaeologists as Prehistoric, Moritari was home to a civilisation that possessed extremely sophisticated technology. However that thriving culture was lost during the course of a single night. With out anyone left to inherit it, their fantastic technology vanished as well.
Tens of thousands of years have passed since then. The once proud cities of the ancients have crumbled into desolate ruins. Eventually upon these ancient, crumbling ruins, a new civilization was born. Although it paled in comparison to the culture of the ancients, it produced a new technology based upon steam and gears and gave rise to a thriving population.
Within this civilisation this civilization were adventurers who protected the Prehistoric ruins from evildoers, and sought to solve the mysteries of the ancients.
They were called Treasure Masters.”
Tokobot Plus is a 3D platform game where you play the part of Bolt a young boy who wants to become a Treasure Master. With the help of mysterious prehistoric robots called Tokobots, Bolt sets out to become a Treasure Master under the guidance of Mr Canewood.
Using your Tokobots as weapons and tools, Bolt can do various moves such as Toko-Attack, Toko-Screw, Toko-Glider, Toko-Stomp, and Toko-Jump. The Toko-Attack move can be used to attack enemies and it can be used to turn the Tokobots into a ladder, allowing Bolt to make his way through the ruins. By selecting different formations for your Tokobots determines what kind of “Toko” move you will do.
As with most platform games, the game play is based around solving puzzles. The fights scenes are normally won by figuring the weakness of the enemy. Once the weakness of each enemy is exploited there doesn’t seem to be much else you can do to make the fights more interesting. At the end of each level you fight a boss this is where the game borrows from Pokemon. Each has a specific special attack and weakness, with each attack based on a sequence of moves. The AI of each boss is very predictable, you just have to watch them go through their cycle of moves once and you can rest assure that’s how it will go for the rest of the fight.
The controls are quite awkward but you do soon pick them up, they just aren’t intuitive enough. Even the camera control is iffy. You can only move the camera around Bolt a little bit, which defeats the purpose of having this feature, and the camera moves in the opposite direction you would imagine it when moving the right analogue controller to the left and right.
Tokobot Plus will appeal more to younger gamers or to avid platform gamers, fans of Sandbox Gaming such a Grand Theft Auto will feel restricted while playing as you don’t have much freedom and getting stuck at one puzzle can hold the whole game up. Unfortunately this game is not unique enough to enjoy fully, and you might find yourself getting bored very quickly.
