Bionicle Heroes - Nintendo Wii

By Steve Lawson

Bionicle Heroes - Nintendo Wii

SEVEN-YEAR-OLD boys don't read newspapers, which is probably a good thing.

But their dads do, so that means I can warn them off wasting their cash on this rubbish.

Released last year on the other major consoles, this game was about as bad as it got. Blatantly derivative of Lego Star Wars, it was overly-simplistic and repetitive.

Now the Wii version is here and it's even worse, thanks to a dreadful control system.

Bionicle Heroes mostly follows the Bionicle Legends stories.

You run around a linear environment, exploding Lego pieces and enemies into smaller Lego pieces of varying point totals, which you're then able to spend on upgrades.

It's so dull because of the game's core feature. Hero mode activates once you've picked up a certain number of Lego pieces, which makes you invincible, and this lasts until you activate a golden statue to access the next area.

This means you can stay invincible through probably three-quarters of the game, which makes the whole venture completely pointless.
