What's the atmosphere like?
This is as near a perfect country pub as any, filled with real character. Originally a 19th-century blacksmith's shop, it began serving ale to passing carriages at the start of the 20th century.
What's the decor like?
Little has changed in the last 100 years. There are many original fixtures and fittings, the Mash Tun public bar still proudly boasting a spectacular gantry built by local cabinetmakers in 1909. Next door is the snug Wee Still lounge which houses a small-scale still, once used in Milnathort's Stronachie Distillery.
Who drinks here?
They are a loyal bunch and not just locals. This is a favourite watering hole and pulls in admirers from far and wide. Most are folk who like a traditional night out in good company.
What about the staff?
The main man is chef and owner Paul Chinnock who enjoys star status for his culinary skills. His partner Margaret Parker looks after the restaurant while Andy Rhynd is bar boss. You would be hard pushed to find better service.
The food's good, then?
It's fabulous. There's a reasonably-priced all-you-can-eat carvery as well as more imaginative selection of dishes featuring healthy choice and vegetarian options. Bar snacks are well above average, too. The favourite on an extensive menu is pan-seared breast of chicken stuffed with duck parfait on a bed of salsa.
Quiz night?
Only when fund-raising. Staff and regulars have already paid for 10 guide dogs for the blind.
