Apparently, it is a 'new concept in eating and drinking'. It sounds interesting.
Have they come up with a space age pint in a pill form or a previously undiscovered foodstuff? Of course not. It is just another style bar although admittedly one that is pretty easy on the eye.
Cargo takes up the bottom two floors of a new office block and they will do a roaring after-work trade with people from the nearby financial institutions.
There is an old joke that says you know you have been in Edinburgh too long when you have slept with at least three people who work for Standard Life.
Cargo will be the starting point for a fair few of these hook-ups.
The bar is shaped liked a two-tier glass doughnut with a central atrium where the doughnut's hole would be.
Looking out of the huge glass windows at one end reveals a roundabout and some of Edinburgh's less attractive streets.
Peering out the windows at the other side is the newly landscaped stopping point for the Union Canal. Come the summer, this will be a great spot to catch some rays and enjoy a couple of beers while the water laps against the dock.
On the winter's night we were in, the wind was whipping the water into foam and I wouldn't have dropped my pint if a polar bear had wandered past the window.
Despite the Siberian weather, Cargo was surprisingly busy.
It opened just before Christmas and I thought it might have taken a while to find its feet.
Not so.
There were couple in for a quiet drink, groups getting ready for a night on the lash and blokes pondering the sports results over a frosty one.Apart from its basic circular shape, the place itself doesn't stray too far from the well-beaten path of the modern style bar.
It is done out in greys and neutral colours with chocolate leather cube seats and some banquettes.
There are funky stools at the bar and usefully they have backrests.
This might seem trivial but if you have ever fallen off one without a back then you learn to appreciate these small details.
Concrete and glass make the most impression and it is all tastefully minimal without being clinical.
Subtle lighting and a mellow soundtrack of R'n'B, soul and the blue s keep it chilled but not chilly. If I had to sum it up in one word then smart would fit the bill. You don't have to dress as though you are the best man at a wedding to get in but most people had clearly looked in the mirror before heading over here.
This is reflected in the prices. A pint of Guinness and a large glass of wine came to a hefty £7.40 which is certainly a new concept when it comes to emptying customers' wallets.
The weird thing is that once I recovered from my initial choking fit, I realised Cargo is a cool enough looking place to not begrudge the cash. At least not for a couple of drinks.
But if was going to stay here all night then I would have to try my hand at piracy on the Union Canal. Anyone seen my parrot and eye-patch?
