1. Build a pyramid of charcoal around two or three
firelighters and ignite them with a long match. If your charcoal is damp
or you do not have any firelighters, try using lighting fluid to start
your barbecue. Spray the fluid evenly over the charcoal, leave it for 30
seconds before lighting with a long match.
2. Leave the lighted charcoal for 25-30 minutes or
until it is covered in an even layer of grey ash. Coals should be white
and glowing before cooking starts to ensure an even temperature and avoid
burning the surface of the food.
More top tips...
* Never try to relight or top up a fire with lighter
fluid. The fire could burn back to the bottle, causing it to explode in
flames.
* Always keep a hand-held water sprayer nearby in case
of flare-ups and a bucket of sand in case of emergency.
* Never keep matches, firelighters or lighter fluid
near a barbecue.
* Always supervise children.
* Always allow a barbecue to cool for 24 hours before
putting it away.
* Never pour water over the coals to extinguish them,
as this could warp or damage the
metal. |
